Facts About Filipino BSN Degree Holders

BSN degree holders in the Philippines nowadays have reached quite a number that employment is already very difficult to find. The number of nurses and student nurses was known to increase because the people discovered that the salary for this profession is very good when given the chance to work abroad, most especially in the United States of America. Because of that, even doctors re-enrolled themselves in schools just to have that BSN degree so that they could also make use of it to gain more money overseas. The problem today is that, many countries are in recession when it comes to accepting foreign Nurses to work on their country. Thus, many BSN degree holder and registered nurses (RN) today in the Philippines are unemployed.

There are many endeavors a BSN degree holder still has to go through before acquiring a professional nurse license. This include the Nurse Licensure Exam. Before being employed, an RN should undergo IV Therapy Trainings, Basic Life Support trainings, Clinical trainings in the hospitals, not to mention the various tests and examinations one should pass when planning to work abroad. Then, when you have acquired and finished all these trainings, most of them with costly payment, you are still not sure if you get employed because most hospitals and clinics in the country are not accepting new nurses due to overpopulation.

Because of the situations mentioned above, some of the BSN degree holders and RN's accept jobs that are not in line with the nursing profession at all. These jobs include clerical works in schools or companies, call center agents, bank tellers, and many more. I believe, one of the reasons for this is that these jobs offer higher payment compared to the staff nurses in hospitals nowadays.

Sometime, I felt like I chose the wrong program when I enrolled as a BSN 5 years ago. However, when I think of nursing as a profession, all the values, knowledge and skills inculcated in me during my experiences as a Nurse makes me think that nursing is really a noble profession. If you have a passion to serve, then you should give that service not only to the sick people in the hospitals or clinics, but also to your clients whatever your work today may be.
